The Triumph Spitfire is an English two-seat sports car, introduced at the London Motor Show in 1962. The car is based on a design produced for Standard-Triumph in 1957 by Italian designer Giovanni Michelotti. The car was manufactured at Canley, Coventry. The Spitfire was the first British Sports Car of its class to feature roll up windows, front disc brakes, and rack and pinion steering. This particular example is highly optioned with Overdrive, AM Radio, and Window Washer. This Spitfire has been in Mr. Connally’s family since new. It was raced extensively by his father, Winning the Texas Regional Special Class A SCCA Championships in 1964 and 1965, and placed 1st Overall at Carroll Shelby’s 1967 Terlingua Challenge. Mr. Connally continues the winning family tradition by placing 1st Overall in the Spitfire Autocross Class at two national Triumphest events.
